The Defense Mechanism
Because patients ask me many questions regarding their health, I felt it was quite important to understand that true health or "dis-ease", leading to disease within the body, starts with one’s basic understanding of their "defense mechanism". Most of the ideas and concepts that I will be discussing have been taken from the text, The Science of Homeopathy by George Vithhoulkas. First, one should understand that all human beings possess a defense mechanism which constantly deals and copes with stimuli from sources, internally and externally. Homeostasis, a state of equilibrium or balance within the body, is under the control of this mechanism. For example, all environmental influences such as pollutants, etc. are perceived by the body through receptors on the mental, emotional, and physical levels of existence. Our ability to survive and exist depends upon the body’s ability to maintain equilibrium with a minimum of disturbance. If the stimuli are stronger that the body’ natural resistance, a state of imbalance takes place which manifests as signs and symptoms. These manifestations are expressed on either mental, emotional or physical levels.

Sometimes, the symptoms or groups of symptoms are erroneously called “diseases” when they really represent the result of the defense mechanism to handle the stimulus. The defense mechanism functions as a totality. It always tries to defend the body in the best possible manner at any given moment. As stated, the defense mechanism acts on the mental and emotional levels: it is not confined merely to the immune system, endocrine system or other mechanisms of the body.
You may at this point, be asking yourself, what really is this mechanism? This question has been asked for centuries. For many hundreds of years, philosophers, scientists, and healers have believed that this mechanism is a "vital force" possessing the intelligence and power to govern all the processes involved in both health and disease. It seemed obvious that some force governs and runs the human body. This "vital force" idea has been described throughout history by many writers. It is an influence which directs all aspects of life in the body. It adapts to environmental influences, animates the emotional life of the individual, provides thoughts and creativity, and conducts spiritual inspiration.
The vital force clearly includes a wide variety of functions: one aspect of the vital force which establishes balance in states of disease is called the "defense mechanism".
New concepts in physics are beginning to be reflected in biological science, particularly in the electrodynamic fields of the body. Instruments have been constructed that can directly measure the electromagnetic fields of the body, and have been useful in diagnosing many diseases and imbalances within the body. Many scientists now believe that this electromagnetic field is analogous to the vital force. The electromagnetic field is the interrelationship of particles affecting each other through charge and movement. These relationships can be defined as "vibrations".
The human organism possesses its own distinct vibration rate. When the organism is exposed to a stimulus, the first event to take place is an alteration of the vibration rate to the defense mechanism. For most routine stimuli, to which we are exposed constantly, the defense mechanism is able to respond with no noticeable effect on the mental, emotional or physical levels. However, of the stimulus of stronger than the "vital force of the body", the defense mechanism is called into play to counteract the stimulus. If this did not take place, death would rapidly ensue.
Before pain of symptoms develop, there is a latent period whereby the defense mechanism begins to adjust to the effect of the stimulus. It may be hours, days, weeks or even months until symptoms manifest on the mental, emotional or physical levels. A good example is a virus or bacteria that manifests in several hours into a severe emotional stress which then develops into asthma or some other degenerative disease in six months.
Understanding the roles of the defense mechanism and "Vital Force" (electromagnetic field) of the organism helps us to understand that restoring balance to the defense mechanism, and thus changing the vibratory rate, allows the body to restore itself to health.

Each individual can be seen as a triangle of well-being. If one aspect of this triangle is out of balance, all aspects distort, creating side effects such as physical pain, disease, depression, fear, stress, and lack of faith. Davis AHS will restore balance during each session. We use energetic and bio-vibrational therapy to bring your body, mind, and spirit into balance. Optimum health is the goal.

We have the potential for happier, healthier lives, but most of us suffer in the past or the future. Davis AHS helps us to live in the present. Once The Process has started most patients start to see changes taking place. Most patients begin to experience inner strength, a quiet calm, mental power, spiritual growth, stability, more energy, tranquility, serenity, happiness and a new found excitement for life.

January 3, 2005 - I have been a patient of Dr. Davis for three years. I've had chronic neck pain for 20 years and it has been greatly reduced. But I believe that the reason that I come to Ridgewood once a week (twice a week during Fashion Week and stressful times) is because of the improvements that Dr. Davis has made in my balance, stress, focus, breathing, pain reduction, anxiety, and sleep. Having Dr. Davis in my life keeps me from having to run to a host of doctors. The only negative is that it feels so good and works so well that you’ll always want to come back – and it's actually my good fortune to be able to do so."
